Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उपास्यहि रसान् भौमाम्स् तप्त्वा च जगद् अम्शुभिः ।
परेत आचरिताम् भीमाम् रविर् आविशते दिशम् ॥ ॥२-६३-१५॥
Upāsyahi rasān bhaumāms taptvā ca jagad aṃśubhiḥ |
Pareta ācaritām bhīmām ravir āviśate diśam ॥2-63-15॥
Translation
Having drawn up the earth's moisture and heated the world with its rays, the Sun entered the fearful direction [the South] inhabited by the dead.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पृथ्वी के रसों को सोखकर और अपनी किरणों से जगत को तपाकर, सूर्य उस भयंकर (दक्षिण) दिशा में प्रविष्ट हो गया, जो प्रेतों (मृतकों) द्वारा सेवित है।
English Commentary
This verse poetically describes the transition from summer to the monsoon season, marked by the Sun moving towards the South (Dakshinayana). While it serves as a meteorological description, the imagery is heavy with foreboding. The South is traditionally the direction of Yama (the God of Death) and spirits (Pretas). By stating the Sun entered this 'fearful direction', the poet foreshadows the death that is about to occur in the narrative. Nature is reflecting the grim destiny awaiting the King.

यह श्लोक ग्रीष्म ऋतु के अंत और दक्षिणायन की शुरुआत का वर्णन करता है। खगोलीय रूप से, जब सूर्य दक्षिण की ओर बढ़ता है, तो मानसून आता है। लेकिन यहाँ रूपक गहरा है—दक्षिण दिशा यमराज (मृत्यु के देवता) की दिशा मानी जाती है। सूर्य का 'भीम' (भयंकर) दिशा में जाना आने वाली अशुभ घटना और मृत्यु का संकेत दे रहा है। प्रकृति का वर्णन यहाँ राजा के मन की स्थिति और आने वाले संकट का प्रतिबिंब है।
