पतितेन अम्भसा चन्नः पतमानेन च असकृत् ।
आबभौ मत्त सारन्गः तोय राशिर् इव अचलः ॥ ॥२-६३-१८॥
Patitena ambhasā channaḥ patamānena ca asakṛt |
Ābabhau matta sārangaḥ toya rāśir iva acalaḥ ॥2-63-18॥
Translation
Covered by falling water and water that had already fallen incessantly, that mountain, teeming with intoxicated Sarangas [deer], appeared like a heap of water [an ocean].
हिंदी अनुवाद
निरंतर गिरते हुए और गिरे हुए जल से ढका हुआ वह पर्वत, जिस पर मृग (सारंग) उन्मत्त होकर घूम रहे थे, समुद्र (जलराशि) के समान सुशोभित हो रहा था।
English Commentary
The heavy downpour transforms the landscape, blurring the lines between solid earth and fluid water. The mountain looks like an ocean, suggesting an optical illusion or a change in perception. This visual confusion is crucial to the story, as it sets the stage for the King's fatal error of mistaken identity. The 'intoxicated deer' wandering the mountain parallel King Dasharatha, who wanders into the forest intoxicated by the thrill of the sport.

भारी वर्षा के कारण दृश्यता (visibility) कम हो गई है और रूप बदल गए हैं। पर्वत, जो अचल और ठोस है, पानी की चादर के कारण समुद्र जैसा लग रहा है। यह 'भ्रम' का एक और संकेत है। 'मत्त सारंग' (मदमस्त मृग) दशरथ की अपनी मानसिक स्थिति के समानांतर हैं—जो शिकार के उत्साह में उन्मत्त थे। यह वातावरण शिकार के लिए उपयुक्त तो था, परंतु इसमें पहचान की गलती होने की पूरी संभावना थी।
