तस्मिम्स्तत्राहमेकान्ते रात्रौ विवृतकार्मुकः ।
तत्राहम् सम्वृतम् वन्यम् हतवाम्स्तीरमागतम् ॥ ॥२-६३-२३॥
Tasmims tatrāham ekānte rātrau vivṛtakārmukaḥ |
Tatrāham samvṛtam vanyam hatavāms tīram āgatam ॥2-63-23॥
Translation
There, in that solitary place at night, with my bow drawn, I stayed hidden. [Suddenly], I struck [what I took to be] a wild animal that had come to the bank.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(हे कौसल्या), वहाँ उस एकांत में, रात्रि के समय मैं धनुष चढ़ाकर छिपा बैठा था। वहाँ तट पर आए हुए (अदृश्य) वन्य जीव (समझकर) को मैंने बाण से मार दिया।
English Commentary
This acts as the climax of the specific event. Dasharatha describes lying in wait, hidden (samvrtam) in the solitude of the night (ekante). The tension is palpable as he sits with his bow drawn. He admits to striking what he assumed was a wild animal coming to the bank. The tragedy lies in the lack of visual confirmation; he fired blindly based on his assumption, sealing his fate and that of the young boy.

यह घटना का चरम बिंदु है। 'एकांते' (एकांत में) और 'सम्वृतम्' (छिपा हुआ) शब्द बताते हैं कि राजा घात लगाकर बैठे थे। उन्होंने लक्ष्य को देखा नहीं, केवल आहट का इंतजार किया। 'हतवान्' (मार दिया) शब्द का प्रयोग अंतिम है। यहाँ एक भारी चूक हुई—उन्होंने मनुष्य (ऋषि कुमार) को वन्य पशु समझ लिया। अँधेरा, अकेलापन और छिपे रहना—ये सभी तत्व मिलकर उस दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण क्षण का निर्माण करते हैं।
