सभार्ये निर्गते रामे कौसल्याम् कोसलेश्वरः ।
विवक्षुरसितापाङ्गाम् स्मृवा दुष्कृतमात्मनः ॥ ॥२-६३-३॥
Sabhārye nirgate rāme kausalyām kosaleśvaraḥ । Vivakṣurasitāpāṅgām smṛtvā duṣkṛtamātmanaḥ ॥ ॥2-63-3॥
Translation
With Rama having departed along with his wife, the Lord of Kosala (Dasharatha) remembered his own past misdeed and wished to speak to Kausalya of the dark eyes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पत्नी (सीता) सहित राम के चले जाने पर, कोसल नरेश दशरथ को अपना (पुराना) दुष्कर्म याद आया और वह काली आँखों वाली कौशल्या से बोलने के इच्छुक हुए।
English Commentary
Memory serves as a tormentor here. With his son gone, Dasharatha's mind travels back to the cause of this suffering. He feels a compelling need to confess (vivakṣuḥ) to Kausalya. Addressing her by her physical beauty even in this tragic hour highlights their intimacy; he turns to his partner not as a King, but as a man needing to unburden his soul before the end.

'दुष्कृतम् आत्मनः' (अपना पाप) याद आते ही दशरथ का मन भारी हो गया। पाप का बोझ बांटने के लिए उन्हें एक श्रोता की आवश्यकता थी। कौशल्या को 'असितापाङ्गाम्' (काली पुतलियों/नेत्रों वाली) कहा गया है, जो संभवतः उनकी सुंदरता के साथ-साथ उनकी आँखों में छाई उदासी का भी संकेत है। राजा अपने पाप का स्वीकार (Confession) अपनी अर्धांगिनी के सामने करना चाहते हैं ताकि मन का बोझ हल्का हो सके।
