तत् एतान् मिथुनम् वृद्धम् चिर कालभृतम् मया ।
मयि पन्चत्वम् आपन्ने काम् वृत्तिम् वर्तयिष्यति ॥ ॥२-६३-३४॥
Tat etān mithunam vṛddham cira kālabhṛtam mayā |
Mayi pancatvam āpanne kām vṛttim vartayiṣyati ॥2-63-34॥
Translation
"That old couple has been supported by me for a long time. Once I have dissolved into the five elements (died), how will they sustain themselves?"

"उस वृद्ध दम्पति का, जिनका मैंने लंबे समय तक भरण-पोषण किया है, मेरे पंचतत्व में विलीन (मृत्यु) हो जाने पर अब क्या सहारा होगा? वे कैसे जीवित रहेंगे?"
English Commentary
Shravan Kumara contemplates the bleak future of his parents. The phrase Mithunam Vriddham (old couple) emphasizes their frailty. He has been their sole provider (bhritam). The term Panchatvam refers to the dissolution of the body into the five elements upon death. His question, "How will they sustain themselves?" is rhetorical and tragic because the answer is obvious: they cannot. The arrow has effectively sentenced all three to death, not just one.

यहाँ श्रवण कुमार व्यावहारिक वास्तविकता का सामना कर रहे हैं। 'चिर कालभृतम्' बताता है कि सेवा उनकी दिनचर्या थी, कोई क्षणिक कार्य नहीं। 'पंचत्वम् आपन्ने' मृत्यु के लिए एक सुंदर लेकिन अंतिम वाक्यांश है (शरीर का पाँच तत्वों—पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु, आकाश—में मिल जाना)। उनकी चिंता यह है कि उनके माता-पिता अंधे और असहाय हैं; उनके बिना वे पानी तक नहीं पी पाएंगे। यह प्रश्न अनुत्तरित है और यही इस प्रसंग की सबसे बड़ी वेदना है।
