Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वृद्धौ च माता पितराव् अहम् च एक इषुणा हतः ।
केन स्म निहताः सर्वे सुबालेन अकृत आत्मना ॥ ॥२-६३-३५॥
Vṛddhau ca mātā pitarāv aham ca eka iṣuṇā hataḥ |
Kena sma nihatāḥ sarve subālena akṛta ātmanā ॥2-63-35॥
Translation
"My old parents and I—all three of us have been killed by a single arrow. Who is this childish, undisciplined fool who has destroyed us all?"

"मेरे वृद्ध माता-पिता और मैं—हम तीनों एक ही बाण से मारे गए हैं। किस अविवेकी, बाल-बुद्धि और असंयमित आत्मा वाले व्यक्ति ने हम सबका वध कर दिया?"
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the "Triple Death" tragedy. Shravan Kumara astutely notes that physically only he is struck, but functionally, his parents are dead too. Eka ishuna hatah (killed by one arrow) illustrates the domino effect of the tragedy. He characterizes the shooter not as a warrior, but as Subala (childish/foolish) and Akruta-atmana (one with an uncultivated or uncontrolled soul). It is a damning indictment of Dasharatha’s recklessness—skill without wisdom is merely dangerous childishness.

यह इस प्रसंग का सबसे मर्मस्पर्शी श्लोक है। गणितीय दृष्टि से एक बाण चला, परन्तु उसने तीन प्राण ले लिए। श्रवण कुमार अपने हत्यारे को 'सुबालेन' (बचकानी बुद्धि वाला) और 'अकृत आत्मना' (जिसका मन/आत्मा सधे हुए नहीं हैं) कहते हैं। जिसने बिना देखे, बिना पहचाने बाण चलाया, वह वीर नहीं, मूर्ख है। यह दशरथ के अहंकार पर सीधा प्रहार था। राजा को अपनी शब्दभेदी विद्या पर गर्व था, लेकिन यहाँ वह विद्या 'बालकपन' सिद्ध हुई।
