तम् गिरम् करुणाम् श्रुत्वा मम धर्म अनुकान्क्षिणः ।
कराभ्याम् सशरम् चापम् व्यथितस्य अपतत् भुवि ॥ ॥२-६३-३६॥
Tam giram karuṇām śrutvā mama dharma anukānkṣiṇaḥ |
Karābhyām saśaram cāpam vyathitasya apatat bhuvi ॥2-63-36॥
Translation
Hearing that pathetic voice of the ascetic who desired only Dharma, I was filled with such anguish that the bow, along with the arrow, slipped from my hands and fell to the ground.
हिंदी अनुवाद
धर्म की कामना करने वाले उस तपस्वी की करुण वाणी को सुनकर, अत्यधिक व्यथा के कारण मेरे हाथों से बाण सहित धनुष भूमि पर गिर पड़ा।
English Commentary
This verse symbolizes the total psychological collapse of King Dasharatha. For a warrior of his stature, dropping the bow (Chapa) is the ultimate sign of shock and loss of composure. The description of the victim as Dharma anukankshinah (one aspiring for righteousness) sharpens the contrast with Dasharatha's violent act. The physical act of the weapon falling signifies that before the King could even approach the body, his guilt had already disarmed him.

यह श्लोक दशरथ की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण है। दशरथ एक महान योद्धा हैं, और एक योद्धा के हाथ से धनुष का गिरना पराजय और आत्म-नियंत्रण खोने का प्रतीक है। 'धर्म अनुकांक्षिणः' (धर्म चाहने वाले) विशेषण यह दर्शाता है कि दशरथ को तुरंत अपनी भारी भूल का अहसास हो गया था। उन्होंने एक शत्रु को नहीं, बल्कि धर्म का पालन करने वाले एक साधु को मारा था। यह आघात इतना गहरा था कि उनके शरीर ने साथ छोड़ दिया और वे निशस्त्र हो गए।
