तम् देशम् अहम् आगम्य दीन सत्त्वः सुदुर्मनाः ।
अपश्यम् इषुणा तीरे सरय्वाः तापसम् हतम् ॥ ॥२-६३-३८॥
Tam deśam aham āgamya dīna sattvaḥ sudurmanāḥ |
Apaśyam iṣuṇā tīre sarayvāḥ tāpasam hatam ॥2-63-38॥
Translation
Reaching that spot, with my spirit crushed and my mind in deep distress, I saw the ascetic lying on the bank of the Sarayu, killed by my arrow.

उस स्थान पर पहुँचकर, उदास मन और हताश प्राणों के साथ, मैंने सरयू नदी के तट पर अपने बाण से मारे गए तपस्वी को देखा।
English Commentary
The visual confirmation of the tragedy occurs here. Dasharatha approaches not as a king, but as a broken man (Deena-sattvah - wretched spirit). The setting is the holy bank of the river Sarayu, a place meant for purity and life, now stained by accidental slaughter. The verse creates a stark tableau: the majestic river, the dying ascetic, and the devastated archer, freezing the moment of irreversible error in time.

जब दशरथ घटना स्थल पर पहुँचते हैं, तो उनकी स्थिति 'दीन सत्त्वः' (दीन-हीन प्राणी जैसी) है। राजा का तेज समाप्त हो चुका है। यहाँ 'सुदुर्मनाः' (अत्यंत दुखी मन) शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है। उन्होंने अपनी आँखों से उस दृश्य को देखा जिसकी उन्होंने कल्पना भी नहीं की थी—एक शांत ऋषि कुमार, जो नदी तट पर पड़ा था। यह दृश्य उनके जीवन का सबसे काला अध्याय बन गया, जिसे वे अपनी मृत्यु शैैया तक नहीं भूल पाए।
