किम् तव अपकृतम् राजन् वने निवसता मया ।
जिहीर्षिउर् अम्भो गुर्व् अर्थम् यद् अहम् ताडितः त्वया ॥ ॥२-६३-४१॥
Kim tava apakṛtam rājan vane nivasatā mayā |
Jihīrṣur ambho gurv artham yad aham tāḍitaḥ tvayā ॥2-63-41॥
Translation
"O King, what harm did I do to you, living in the forest as I do? I came to fetch water for my elders (parents), and yet I was struck down by you."

"हे राजन! वन में निवास करने वाले मैंने तुम्हारा क्या बिगाड़ा था? मैं तो अपने गुरुजन (माता-पिता) के लिए जल लेने आया था, फिर तुमने मुझे बाण क्यों मारा?"
English Commentary
The victim addresses Dasharatha as Rajan (King), reminding him of the duty attached to that title. The contrast is stark: the King, representing power and protection, versus the ascetic, representing harmlessness and service. By stating he was acting Gurv artham (for the sake of his elders), he emphasizes that the King hasn't just interrupted a task, but a sacred duty (Seva), compounding the spiritual weight of the crime.

संबोधन 'राजन' यहाँ व्यंग्यपूर्ण प्रतीत होता है, क्योंकि राजा का धर्म रक्षा करना है, भक्षक बनना नहीं। श्रवण कुमार पुनः अपनी निर्दोषता दोहराते हैं। 'गुर्व अर्थम्' (गुरुओं/माता-पिता के लिए) वाक्यांश उनके जीवन के उद्देश्य को स्पष्ट करता है। वे अपने लिए कुछ नहीं कर रहे थे, उनका पूरा जीवन सेवा के लिए समर्पित था। ऐसे निस्वार्थ कर्म में संलग्न व्यक्ति की हत्या करना पाप की श्रेणी में सबसे ऊपर है।
