तौ नूनम् दुर्बलाव् अन्धौ मत् प्रतीक्षौ पिपासितौ ।
चिरम् आशा कृताम् तृष्णाम् कष्टाम् सम्धारयिष्यतः ॥ ॥२-६३-४३॥
Tau nūnam durbalāv andhau mat pratīkṣau pipāsitau |
Ciram āśā kṛtām tṛṣṇām kaṣṭām samdhārayiṣyataḥ ॥2-63-43॥
Translation
"Surely those two weak, blind parents are thirsty and waiting for me. They will endure the painful thirst and the agony of expectation/hope for a long time."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"वे दोनों दुर्बल और अंधे हैं, प्यासे होकर मेरी प्रतीक्षा कर रहे होंगे। वे अब बहुत देर तक (मेरे आने की) आशा और कष्टदायक प्यास को धारण करते रहेंगे।"
English Commentary
The pathos here focuses on the torture of waiting. The parents are described as Pipasitau (thirsty) and Mat-pratikshau (waiting for me). Shravan realizes that his delay will prolong their suffering. They will hold onto hope (Asha) which has now become futile. The image of two blind elders waiting in the dark for water that will never arrive is one of the most poignant images in the Ramayana.

यहाँ शारीरिक पीड़ा से अधिक मानसिक पीड़ा का वर्णन है। 'तृष्णाम् कष्टाम्' (कष्टदायक प्यास) और 'आशा कृताम्' (आशा लगाए रखना)—ये दो चीजें माता-पिता को तड़पाएंगी। वे जानते नहीं कि उनका पुत्र अब कभी नहीं आएगा, इसलिए वे हर आहट पर उम्मीद करेंगे। प्रतीक्षा की यह पीड़ा मृत्यु से भी बदतर है। श्रवण कुमार को अपनी मृत्यु से अधिक चिंता इस बात की है कि उनके माता-पिता प्यास से तड़पते रहेंगे।
