Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न नूनम् तपसो वा अस्ति फल योगः श्रुतस्य वा ।
पिता यन् माम् न जानाति शयानम् पतितम् भुवि ॥ ॥२-६३-४४॥
Na nūnam tapaso vā asti phala yogaḥ śrutasya vā |
Pitā yan mām na jānāti śayānam patitam bhuvi ॥2-63-44॥
Translation
"Surely, there is no fruit to be gained from penance or learning; otherwise, how is it that my father does not know that I am lying fallen on the ground?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"निश्चित ही तपस्या का या शास्त्रों के ज्ञान का कोई फल नहीं होता, अन्यथा मेरे पिता मुझे इस प्रकार भूमि पर गिरा हुआ और पड़ा हुआ क्यों नहीं जान पाते?"
English Commentary
A moment of existential crisis and disillusionment. The victim questions the efficacy of Tapas (austerity) and Shruta (scriptural learning). He implies that if spiritual merit translated directly into power, his father's intuition should have alerted him to this tragedy. It highlights the brutal reality that spiritual attainment does not always grant immunity from worldly suffering or immediate omniscience regarding tragic events.

मरते समय श्रवण कुमार के मन में एक क्षणिक संशय (doubt) उत्पन्न होता है। उनके पिता महान तपस्वी हैं। माना जाता है कि तपस्वियों के पास दिव्य दृष्टि होती है। श्रवण सोचते हैं कि यदि तपस्या में शक्ति होती, तो पिता को अब तक पता चल जाना चाहिए था कि उनका पुत्र संकट में है। यह श्लोक मानवीय विवशता को दर्शाता है—चाहे कोई कितना भी ज्ञानी क्यों न हो, पुत्र के वियोग और प्रारब्ध (destiny) के आगे सब विवश हैं।
