Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न द्विजातिर् अहम् राजन् मा भूत् ते मनसो व्यथा ।
शूद्रायाम् अस्मि वैश्येन जातः जन पद अधिप ॥ ॥२-६३-५३॥
na dvijātir aham rājan mā bhūt te manaso vyathā । śūdrāyām asmi vaiśyena jātaḥ jana pada adhipa ॥ ॥2-63-53॥
Translation
O King! I am not a Brahmin (twice-born), so let there be no anguish in your mind. O Ruler of the People! I was born to a Shudra mother by a Vaishya father.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजन! मैं ब्राह्मण नहीं हूँ, अतः आप अपने मन की व्यथा (डर) को त्याग दें। हे जनपदाधिप! मैं वैश्य पिता द्वारा शूद्र माता से उत्पन्न हुआ हूँ।
English Commentary
The boy clarifies his lineage to alleviate Dasharatha's specific fear. He identifies as being of mixed heritage (Vaishya father, Shudra mother), confirming he is not a Brahmin. While killing any ascetic is a grave sin, the boy specifically aims to remove the paralyzing fear of Brahma-hatya. Even in death, his honesty and clarity serve to guide the King. Addressing Dasharatha as 'Lord of the people' reaffirms Dasharatha's status, urging him to carry on despite this tragedy.

यहाँ बालक अपनी वंशावली स्पष्ट करता है। वह बताता है कि वह ब्राह्मण नहीं है, जिससे दशरथ को ब्रह्महत्या के दोष से मुक्ति मिलती है। वह राजा को 'जनपदाधिप' (लोगों का स्वामी) कहकर संबोधित करता है, जो राजा को उनके कर्तव्यों की याद दिलाता है। यद्यपि इससे हत्या का पाप पूरी तरह समाप्त नहीं होता, परंतु शास्त्रीय दृष्टि से दोष का स्वरूप बदल जाता है। बालक सत्य बोलकर राजा को मानसिक शांति देकर विदा लेता है।
