यद् आचरति कल्याणि शुभम् वा यदि वा अशुभम् ।
तत् एव लभते भद्रे कर्ता कर्मजम् आत्मनः ॥ ॥२-६३-६॥
Yad ācarati kalyāṇi śubham vā yadi vā aśubham । Tat eva labhate bhadre kartā karmajam ātmanaḥ ॥ ॥2-63-6॥
Translation
"O Blessed One! O Gentle Lady! Whatever deed a person performs, whether good or bad, the doer inevitably reaps the fruit born of that action."

"हे कल्याणि! हे भद्रे! मनुष्य जैसा भी अच्छा या बुरा कर्म करता है, उस कर्ता को अपने कर्मों से उत्पन्न वैसा ही फल अवश्य प्राप्त होता है।"
English Commentary
Dasharatha articulates the foundational doctrine of Karma. He addresses Kausalya affectionately (Kalyāṇi, Bhadre) while delivering a hard truth: no one escapes the consequences of their actions. He accepts that he is not a victim of circumstance, but a recipient of the fruit of his own past deeds. This realization transforms his suffering from meaningless pain into a spiritual expiation.

यह श्लोक कर्म सिद्धांत (Law of Karma) का मूल मंत्र है। दशरथ अपनी पत्नी को संबोधित करते हुए स्वीकार करते हैं कि उनके साथ जो हो रहा है, वह अन्याय नहीं, बल्कि न्याय है। 'कर्मजम् आत्मनः' का अर्थ है स्वयं के कर्मों से जन्मा हुआ। दशरथ यहाँ एक दार्शनिक की भांति बात कर रहे हैं—वह अपनी पीड़ा का दोष कैकेयी या मंथरा को नहीं, बल्कि स्वयं को दे रहे हैं। यह उनकी आध्यात्मिक परिपक्वता और पश्चाताप की पराकाष्ठा है।
