Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अविज्ञाय फलम् यो हि कर्म त्वेवानुधावति ।
स शोचेत्फलवेLआयाम् यथा किम्शुकसेचकः ॥ ॥२-६३-९॥
Avijñāya phalam yo hi karma tvevānudhāvati । Sa śocet phalavelāyām yathā kiṃśukasecakaḥ ॥ ॥2-63-9॥
Translation
"He who pursues an action without understanding its result grieves at the time of fruition, just like the one who waters the Kimshuka (Palasha) tree."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"जो मनुष्य फल (परिणाम) को जाने बिना केवल कर्म के पीछे दौड़ता है, वह फल मिलने के समय उसी प्रकार शोक करता है जैसे किंशुक (पलाश) को सींचने वाला।"
English Commentary
The metaphor of the Kimshuka (another name for Palasha) is reiterated to emphasize the folly of shortsightedness. Dasharatha is analyzing his life's trajectory. He chased actions (karma anudhāvati) for the thrill—be it hunting or pleasing a young wife—without envisioning the endgame. Now that the consequences have ripened, he realizes he spent his life nurturing the wrong causes.
हिंदी टीका
यह पिछले श्लोक की ही पुनरावृत्ति और विस्तार है। 'किंशुक' पलाश का ही दूसरा नाम है। दशरथ बार-बार इस बात पर जोर दे रहे हैं कि 'बिना विचारे जो करे सो पाछे पछताय'। उन्होंने जवानी में शिकार के रोमांच (कर्म) में पड़कर यह नहीं सोचा कि किसी निर्दोष की हत्या का फल क्या होगा। अब वह 'फलवेला' (फल मिलने का समय) है, और वह फल अत्यंत कड़वा है।
