वधमप्रतिरूपम् तु महर्षेस्तस्य राघवः ।
विलपन्ने व धर्मात्मा कौसल्याम् पुन रब्रवीत् ॥ ॥२-६४-१॥
vadhamapratirūpam tu maharṣestasya rāghavaḥ । vilapanne va dharmātmā kausalyām puna rabravīt ॥ ॥2-64-1॥
Translation
Lamenting that unbecoming killing of the sage's son, the righteous Dasharatha spoke again to Kausalya.

उस महर्षि-पुत्र के उस अनुचित (अयोग्य) वध के लिए विलाप करते हुए, धर्मात्मा राघव (दशरथ) ने कौशल्या से पुनः कहा।
English Commentary
This opens Canto 64. Dasharatha is referred to as 'Dharmatma' (righteous soul) despite the killing, emphasizing that his intent was never malicious and his conscience remains alive through his guilt. He characterizes the killing as 'apratirūpam' (unbecoming, unmatched in tragedy, or unjust). He continues his confession to Kausalya, preparing to tell her about the blind parents' curse, which is the climax of this tale.

यहाँ से 64वां सर्ग आरम्भ होता है। दशरथ को 'धर्मात्मा' कहा गया है, जो विडंबनापूर्ण लग सकता है क्योंकि उन्होंने हत्या की है, परन्तु यह दर्शाता है कि वे जानबूझकर पापी नहीं थे; यह एक दुर्घटना थी और वे इसका प्रायश्चित कर रहे थे। 'अप्रतिरूपम् वधम्' का अर्थ है ऐसा वध जो नहीं होना चाहिए था, जो अनुचित था। दशरथ अपनी कहानी को आगे बढ़ाते हैं कि मृत्यु के बाद क्या हुआ।
