ततस्तस्यैव वचनादुपेत्य परितप्यतः ।
स मया सहसा बण उद्धृतो मर्मतस्तदा ॥ ॥२-६४-१८॥
tatastasyaiva vacanādupetya paritapyataḥ । sa mayā sahasā baṇa uddhṛto marmatastadā ॥ ॥2-64-18॥
Translation
"Then, approaching him as per his own words while he was suffering in pain, I suddenly pulled that arrow out from his vital parts."
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब, उसी (बालक) के कहने पर, मैंने तड़पते हुए उस बालक के पास जाकर, उसके मर्मस्थान से वह बाण सहसा (अचानक/जोर से) निकाल लिया।
English Commentary
Dasharatha clarifies that extracting the arrow was an act of mercy requested by the victim, not an act of further violence. The word paritapyataḥ (suffering/scorched with pain) conveys the urgency of the situation. Dasharatha explains he acted "suddenly" (sahasā) to minimize the prolonged agony, adhering to the dying boy's command to end the torture of the obstruction.

यह श्लोक उस अंतिम क्षण का वर्णन है जब बालक जीवित था। 'परितप्यतः' (तड़पते हुए) शब्द बालक की पीड़ा को दर्शाता है। दशरथ स्पष्ट करते हैं कि बाण उन्होंने अपनी मर्जी से नहीं, अपितु बालक के आदेश ('तस्यैव वचनाद') पर निकाला था। यह दशरथ के अपराधबोध को थोड़ा कम करता है कि उन्होंने कम से कम बालक की अंतिम इच्छा पूरी की, भले ही उससे मृत्यु निश्चित थी।
