Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सबाष्पपूर्णवदनो निःश्वसन् शोककर्शितः ।
माम् उवाच महा तेजाः कृत अन्जलिम् उपस्थितम् ॥ ॥२-६४-२२॥
sabāṣpapūrṇavadano niḥśvasan śokakarśitaḥ । mām uvāca mahā tejāḥ kṛta anjalim upasthitam ॥ ॥2-64-22॥
Translation
With a face filled with tears, sighing and emaciated by grief, the greatly resplendent sage spoke to me, who was standing there with joined palms.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आंसुओं से भरे मुख वाले, आहें भरते हुए और शोक से पीड़ित उस महातेजस्वी ऋषि ने, हाथ जोड़कर (अपराधी की भांति) खड़े हुए मुझसे कहा।
English Commentary
The tableau is striking: the mighty King Dasharatha stands in Anjali Mudra (prayer pose), a sign of total submission and begging for mercy, before a weeping, blind hermit. Despite his grief, the sage is described as Maha Teja (of great spiritual splendor), indicating that his spiritual power remains intact even in his deepest moment of personal loss.

एक ओर 'महातेजाः' (महान तेज वाले) ऋषि हैं जो रो रहे हैं, और दूसरी ओर अयोध्या का राजा है जो 'कृताञ्जलिम्' (हाथ जोड़े) खड़ा है। यह शक्ति का संतुलन बदल जाने का दृश्य है। राजा की सत्ता यहाँ शून्य है; तपस्वी का तेज सर्वोच्च है। ऋषि का रोना उनकी मानवीयता है, और दशरथ का हाथ जोड़ना उनकी दीनता और अपराधबोध है।
