Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अज्ञानाद्द् हि कृतम् यस्मात् इदम् तेन एव जीवसि ।
अपि हि अद्य कुलम् नस्यात् राघवाणाम् कुतः भवान् ॥ ॥२-६४-२६॥
ajñānādd hi kṛtam yasmāt idam tena eva jīvasi । api hi adya kulam nasyāt rāghavāṇām kutaḥ bhavān ॥ ॥2-64-26॥
Translation
"Because this was done out of ignorance, that is why you are alive. Otherwise, the entire lineage of the Raghus would have perished today, let alone you."
हिंदी अनुवाद
चूँकि तुमने यह अज्ञानवश (अनजाने में) किया है, इसीलिए तुम जीवित हो। अन्यथा आज राघवों (रघुवंशियों) का पूरा कुल नष्ट हो जाता, तुम्हारी तो बात ही क्या है।
English Commentary
This is the climax of the confrontation. The sage declares that Dasharatha owes his life—and the existence of his entire dynasty—solely to the fact that the act was accidental. The phrase "Kutaḥ Bhavān" (where are you/what about you) dismisses Dasharatha's individual significance; the sage's anger could have wiped out the entire solar dynasty (Raghavanam kulam). It puts the King in his place: alive only by the grace of a technicality (ignorance).

यह एक अत्यंत भयावह कथन है। ऋषि की शक्ति इतनी है कि वे केवल दशरथ को नहीं, अपितु पूरे 'रघुवंश' को भस्म कर सकते थे। 'कुतः भवान्' (तुम्हारी तो बिसात ही क्या)। यह दशरथ के लिए एक भारी चेतावनी थी। अनजाने में हुए पाप ने पूरे साम्राज्य को खतरे में डाल दिया था। यह श्लोक तपस्वी की शक्ति को राजा की सैन्य शक्ति से कहीं ऊपर स्थापित करता है।
