Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नय नौ नृप तम् देशम् इति माम् च अभ्यभाषत ।
अद्य तम् द्रष्टुम् इच्चावः पुत्रम् पश्चिम दर्शनम् ॥ ॥२-६४-२७॥
naya nau nṛpa tam deśam iti mām ca abhyabhāṣata । adya tam draṣṭum iccāvaḥ putram paścima darśanam ॥ ॥2-64-27॥
Translation
"Take us to that place, O King," he spoke to me. "Today we wish to see that son for the last time."
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन्होंने मुझसे कहा - "हे नृप! हमें उस स्थान पर ले चलो। आज हम उस पुत्र का अंतिम (पश्चिम) दर्शन करना चाहते हैं।"
English Commentary
The sage shifts from the theological implications of the murder back to the personal tragedy. He commands Dasharatha to lead them to the body. The term pascima darsanam (final sight/viewing) is poignant given their blindness; they wish to "see" him through touch and presence one last time. Dasharatha must now perform the grim duty of guiding the parents to the corpse he created.

क्रोध और धर्म की बातें समाप्त हुईं, अब पुनः शोक और वात्सल्य प्रधान हो गया है। 'पश्चिम दर्शनम्' का अर्थ है 'अंतिम दर्शन'। अंधे माता-पिता, जो देख नहीं सकते, वे 'दर्शन' करना चाहते हैं—अर्थात स्पर्श करके अपने पुत्र को अंतिम विदाई देना चाहते हैं। दशरथ अब उनके सारथी या सेवक की तरह उन्हें वहां ले जाएंगे। यह दशरथ के प्रायश्चित का अगला चरण है।
