Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तिष्ठ मा मा गमः पुत्र यमस्य सदनम् प्रति ।
श्वो मया सह गन्ता असि जनन्या च समेधितः ॥ ॥२-६४-३७॥
Tiṣṭha mā mā gamaḥ putra yamasya sadanam prati । Śvo mayā saha gantā asi jananyā ca samedhitaḥ ॥ ॥2-64-37॥
Translation
Wait! Do not go, do not go yet to the abode of Yama, my son. Tomorrow you shall go accompanied by me and your mother.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ठहरो! हे पुत्र, अभी यमराज के घर मत जाओ। कल तुम मेरे और अपनी माता के साथ ही जाना।
English Commentary
This verse is a heartbreaking bargaining with the departed soul. The father commands the son to 'Wait' (tiṣṭha). He cannot bear the thought of his son traveling the dark path to the afterlife alone. The statement 'Tomorrow you shall go with me and your mother' is a declaration of their intent to die. It isn't suicide in a cowardly sense, but a recognition that their life force is inextricably tied to his. They are simply waiting for the grief to complete its work. It reflects a profound bond where the parents wish to unite with their child even in death, refusing separation.

यहाँ पिता ने मृत्यु का निश्चय कर लिया है। वे पुत्र की आत्मा से कह रहे हैं कि वह यमलोक की यात्रा अकेले शुरू न करे। 'श्वो' (कल) का अर्थ यहाँ शाब्दिक 'आने वाला कल' नहीं, बल्कि 'शीघ्र ही' है। यह संकल्प कि वे अब जीवित नहीं रहेंगे, इतना दृढ़ है कि वे इसे यात्रा की योजना की तरह बता रहे हैं। वे चाहते हैं कि मृत्यु के बाद भी परिवार एक साथ रहे। यह भारतीय दर्शन में संबंधों की अटूटता को दर्शाता है—जहाँ प्रेम मृत्यु से भी परे है। वे 'सहगमन' (साथ जाने) की बात कर रहे हैं क्योंकि वियोग अब सहन करने योग्य नहीं है।
