चक्षुर्भ्याम् त्वाम् न पश्यामि कौसल्ये साधु माम् स्पृश ।
इत्युक्त्वा स रुदम्स्त्रस्तो भार्यामाह च भूमिपः ॥ ॥२-६४-६२॥
Cakṣurbhyām tvām na paśyāmi kausalye sādhu mām spṛśa । Ity uktvā sa rudams trasto bhāryām āha ca bhūmipaḥ ॥ ॥2-64-62॥
Translation
"O Kausalya, I cannot see you with my eyes. Touch me gently." Saying this, the King, weeping and terrified, spoke to his wife.

"हे कौशल्या! मैं तुम्हें अपनी आँखों से देख नहीं पा रहा हूँ, मुझे भली-भांति स्पर्श करो।" ऐसा कहकर वे राजा रोते हुए और भयभीत होकर अपनी पत्नी से बोले।
English Commentary
Sensory failure signals the end. Dasharatha goes blind (na paśyāmi), mirroring the blindness of the parents he killed. He asks for touch (spṛśa), seeking physical reassurance as the darkness closes in. The mighty Emperor is reduced to a frightened soul (trasto), weeping (rudan). It brings the narrative full circle—the King who inflicted blindness and grief is now consumed by blindness and grief. It is the ultimate manifestation of the curse's symmetry.

मृत्यु के लक्षण प्रकट होने लगे हैं। दशरथ की दृष्टि जा रही है ('न पश्यामि')—ठीक वैसे ही जैसे उन अंधे माता-पिता की दृष्टि नहीं थी। वे कौशल्या से 'स्पर्श' की मांग करते हैं, क्योंकि अब केवल स्पर्श ही उन्हें सांत्वना दे सकता है। यह दृश्य श्रवण कुमार के माता-पिता के दृश्य को दोहराता है जिन्होंने अपने पुत्र को स्पर्श किया था। 'त्रस्तो' (डरा हुआ/व्याकुल) शब्द बताता है कि मृत्यु के समय राजा भी एक साधारण मनुष्य की तरह भयभीत और असहाय हो जाता है। यह अत्यंत करुण दृश्य है।
