यदि माम् सम्स्पृशेद् रामः सकृतद्य लभेत वा ।
यमक्षयमनुप्राप्ता द्रक्ष्यन्ति न हि मानवाः ॥ ॥२-६४-६५॥
Yadi mām samspṛśed rāmaḥ sakṛdadya labheta vā । Yamakṣayamanuprāptā drakṣyanti na hi mānavāḥ ॥ ॥2-64-65॥
Translation
If only Rama could touch me once today, or if I could find him, I might survive. But alas, men who have reached the abode of Yama do not see their loved ones again.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि राम आज मुझे एक बार छू लेते या मुझे मिल जाते (तो शायद मेरे प्राण बच जाते)। परन्तु यमलोक को प्राप्त हो चुके मनुष्य (मृत्यु के बाद) अपने सगे-संबंधियों को नहीं देख पाते।
English Commentary
For Dasharatha on his deathbed, the physical touch of Rama would be akin to a life-saving elixir or spiritual liberation. He expresses the profound longing that a single touch from his son could revive him or at least grant him a peaceful exit. However, reality sets in as he acknowledges he is entering the 'abode of Yama' (death). He realizes the finality of death, where the living cannot be seen or held. This verse captures the desperate yearning of a dying father for one last connection with his beloved child before the eternal separation.

मृत्युशैया पर पड़े दशरथ के लिए राम का स्पर्श अमृत समान होता। भारतीय संस्कृति में यह मान्यता है कि अंतिम समय में प्रियजन या संतान का स्पर्श आत्मा को शांति प्रदान करता है। दशरथ जानते हैं कि वे मृत्यु के द्वार पर हैं ('यमक्षय' यानी यम का घर)। उन्हें यह कठोर सत्य सता रहा है कि मृत्यु के पश्चात यह भौतिक मिलन असंभव हो जाएगा। यह श्लोक एक पिता की अंतिम और सबसे तीव्र इच्छा को दर्शाता है—सिर्फ एक बार अपने पुत्र का स्पर्श पाने की तड़प, जो अब असंभव प्रतीत हो रही है।
