Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चक्षुषा त्वाम् न पश्यामि स्मृतिर् मम विलुप्यते ।
दूता वैवस्वतस्य एते कौसल्ये त्वरयन्ति माम् ॥ ॥२-६४-६६॥
Cakṣuṣā tvām na paśyāmi smṛtir mama vilupyate । Dūtā vaivasvatasya ete kausalye tvarayanti mām ॥ ॥2-64-66॥
Translation
O Kausalya! I cannot see you with my eyes; my memory is fading away. These messengers of Yama (son of Vivasvan) are urging me to hasten.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे कौसल्या! मैं तुम्हें अपनी आँखों से नहीं देख पा रहा हूँ, मेरी स्मृति लुप्त हो रही है। ये यमराज (विवस्वान के पुत्र) के दूत मुझे जल्दी चलने के लिए विवश कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse signifies the actual moment of dying. Dasharatha describes the clinical and spiritual signs of death: sensory failure (blindness) and fading consciousness (loss of memory). He addresses Kausalya, admitting he can no longer perceive her physically. Spiritually, he begins to perceive another realm; he mentions the 'messengers of Vaivasvata' (Yama, the God of Death). Their 'urging' implies that his time is irrevocably up. It is a chilling yet poignant narration of the soul being summoned from the body, marking the end of the Emperor's life.

यह श्लोक दशरथ के अंतिम क्षणों का प्रत्यक्ष वर्णन है। उनकी इन्द्रियाँ शिथिल हो रही हैं; आँखों के सामने अन्धेरा छा रहा है और वे बगल में बैठी कौसल्या को भी नहीं देख पा रहे। 'स्मृति विलुप्यते' यह दर्शाता है कि चेतना शरीर का साथ छोड़ रही है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि उन्हें यमदूतों का आभास होने लगा है। जब प्राण निकलने वाले होते हैं, तो जीव को परलोक के दूत दिखाई देने लगते हैं। दशरथ कहते हैं कि यमदूत उन्हें 'जल्दी करो' कह रहे हैं, जिसका अर्थ है कि अब उनके पास जीवन का एक भी क्षण शेष नहीं है।
