Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कौसल्ये चित्त मोहेन हृदयम् सीदतीव मे ।
वेदये न च समुक्तान् शब्दस्पर्शरसानहम् ॥ ॥२-६४-७३॥
Kausalye citta mohena hṛdayam sīdatīva me । Vedaye na ca samuktān śabdasparśarasānaham ॥ ॥2-64-73॥
Translation
O Kausalya! My heart is sinking due to the delusion of my mind. I can no longer perceive sound, touch, or taste.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे कौसल्या! चित्त (मन) के मोह (व्याकुलता) से मेरा हृदय बैठा जा रहा है (शिथिल हो रहा है)। मैं शब्द, स्पर्श और रस आदि विषयों को भली-भांति अनुभव नहीं कर पा रहा हूँ।
English Commentary
Dasharatha reports the physiological shutdown of his body to Kausalya. His heart is 'sinking' (sīdati) under the weight of grief and delusion (moha). The connection between the mind and the senses is severed; he explicitly states he can no longer process sound (shabda), touch (sparsha), or taste (rasa). This withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara) is usually voluntary for yogis, but here it is the involuntary collapse of a dying man. It is a desperate cry confirming that the interface through which he experienced the world is closing down.

दशरथ अब अपनी शारीरिक मृत्यु की अंतिम अवस्था का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। 'हृदयम् सीदतीव' का अर्थ है हृदय की गति का रुकना या डूबना। शोक के कारण उनका मन इतना मोहित (सुन्न) हो गया है कि इन्द्रियाँ अपने विषयों (Sensory objects) को ग्रहण करना बंद कर चुकी हैं। वे शब्द सुन नहीं पा रहे, स्पर्श महसूस नहीं कर पा रहे। यह तंत्रिका तंत्र (Nervous system) के फेल होने का प्राचीन वैदिक वर्णन है। वे कौसल्या को संबोधित करते हुए अपने अंत की पुष्टि कर रहे हैं, ताकि वे मानसिक रूप से तैयार हो सकें।
