ताः स्त्रियः स्वप्नशीलज्ञाश्चेष्टासंचलादिषु ।
ता वेपथुपरीताश्च राज्ञः प्राणेषु शङ्किताः ॥ ॥२-६५-१४॥
tāḥ striyaḥ svapnaśīlajñāśceṣṭāsaṃcalādiṣu |
tā vepathuparītāśca rājñaḥ prāṇeṣu śaṅkitāḥ ॥2-65-14॥
Translation
Those women, familiar with the King's sleeping habits and his movements during sleep, began to tremble uncontrollably, doubting the King's life (fearing he was dead).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे स्त्रियाँ राजा के सोने के स्वभाव तथा सोते समय उनकी (अंगों की) चेष्टाओं और हिलने-डुलने को भली-भांति जानती थीं। (गति न पाकर) वे कांप उठीं और राजा के प्राणों के विषय में शंकित हो गयीं।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the intimacy and observational skills of the attendants. They were experts in the King's physiology ('svapnasilajnas'), knowing exactly how he moved or breathed while sleeping. The absence of these familiar 'chesta' (movements) was the definitive sign. Their reaction is visceral; they are seized by trembling ('vepathu'). This physical manifestation of fear signifies the shock of recognition. They are not merely suspecting illness; they are doubting the very existence of his 'prana' (life force). It portrays the transition from confusion to the terrifying certainty of widowhood and orphanhood for the kingdom.

यहाँ उन स्त्रियों की सूक्ष्म दृष्टि और अनुभव का वर्णन है। वे 'स्वप्नशीलज्ञाः' थीं—वे जानती थीं कि राजा गहरी नींद में भी कैसे सांस लेते हैं या करवट बदलते हैं। शरीर की पूर्ण निश्चेष्टा (immobility) को देखकर उनका अनुभव उन्हें बता गया कि यह नींद नहीं, मृत्यु है। इस अहसास का शारीरिक प्रभाव 'वेपथुपरीताः' (कम्पकंपी) के रूप में सामने आया। यह भय केवल राजा की मृत्यु का नहीं था, अपितु एक युग के अंत और उससे उत्पन्न होने वाली अनिश्चितता का भी था। संदेह अब विश्वास में बदल रहा था।
