Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नदताम् भीम घोषाणाम् निशासु मृग पक्षिणाम् ।
निशम्य नूनम् सम्स्त्रस्ता राघवम् सम्श्रयिष्यति ॥ ॥२-६६-१०॥
Nadatām bhīma ghoṣāṇām niśāsu mṛga pakṣiṇām । Niśamya nūnam samstrastā rāghavam samśrayiṣyati ॥ ॥2-66-10॥
Translation
Hearing the terrifying sounds of roasting beasts and birds in the night, she will surely be frightened and will cling to Raghava (Rama) for protection.
हिंदी अनुवाद
रातों में जब हिंसक पशु और पक्षी भयानक आवाजें करेंगे, तब उन्हें सुनकर वह (सीता) निश्चय ही डर जाएगी और राम का सहारा लेगी (उनसे लिपट जाएगी)।
English Commentary
Kausalya vividly imagines the terrifying atmosphere of the forest at night. She anticipates the visceral fear Sita will feel upon hearing the roaring of wild beasts and the cries of birds (bhima ghoshanam). The imagery is auditory and frightening. Kausalya finds a slight solace in knowing Sita will cling to Rama (Raghavam samshrayishyati) for safety. It illustrates the complete dependence of Sita on Rama in the wild. This verse humanizes the epic characters, showing a mother’s anxiety about the physical safety and emotional trauma her children are facing in a hostile environment.

यह श्लोक माता के मन में चल रहे दृश्य-चित्रण (visualization) को दर्शाता है। कौसल्या वन के भयावह वातावरण की कल्पना कर रही हैं—घोर रात्रि और जंगली जानवरों की आवाजें। वे जानती हैं कि सीता स्वभाव से कोमल हैं। 'सम्श्रयिष्यति' का अर्थ है शरण लेना या कसकर पकड़ लेना। यह सीता के राम के प्रति पूर्ण समर्पण और निर्भरता को दिखाता है, लेकिन साथ ही कौसल्या की विवशता को भी कि वे अपनी बहू को सांत्वना देने के लिए वहां मौजूद नहीं हैं। यह चिंता एक सामान्य सास की चिंता न होकर एक माँ की ममता है।
