न तु सम्कलनम् राज्ञो विना पुत्रेण मन्त्रिणः ।
सर्वज्ञाः कर्तुम् ईषुस् ते ततः रक्षन्ति भूमिपम् ॥ ॥२-६६-१५॥
Na tu samkalanam rājño vinā putreṇa mantriṇaḥ । Sarvajñāḥ kartum īṣus te tataḥ rakṣanti bhūmipam ॥ ॥2-66-15॥
Translation
The knowledgeable ministers did not wish to perform the cremation of the King without a son present; therefore, they preserved the body of the King.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे सर्वज्ञ (नीति निपुण) मंत्री पुत्र के बिना राजा का दाह-संस्कार नहीं करना चाहते थे, इसलिए उन्होंने राजा (के पार्थिव शरीर) की रक्षा की।
English Commentary
This verse clarifies the rationale behind the preservation mentioned in the previous verse. The ministers are described as sarvajnah (all-knowing/wise regarding protocols). They knew that cremating the King without a son (vina putrena) would violate religious dharma and deny the King proper spiritual liberation. Furthermore, denying Bharata the right to perform the last rites would have been a grave injustice. Therefore, they chose to "guard" or preserve (rakshanti) the body, prioritizing religious adherence and family rights over immediate closure.

यहाँ स्पष्ट किया गया है कि मंत्रियों ने शव को तेल में क्यों रखा। 'विना पुत्रेण' (पुत्र के बिना) अंतिम संस्कार करना शास्त्र सम्मत नहीं था, और इससे मृत आत्मा को सद्गति नहीं मिलती। मंत्रियों को 'सर्वज्ञाः' (सब कुछ जानने वाले) कहा गया है, जो उनकी धार्मिक और राजनीतिक सूझबूझ को दर्शाता है। वे जानते थे कि यदि भरत के आने से पहले संस्कार कर दिया गया, तो यह धर्म-विरूद्ध होगा और भरत को भी पिता का अंतिम दर्शन नहीं हो पाएगा। अतः, उन्होंने शरीर की 'रक्षा' की।
