हा महाराज रामेण सततम् प्रियवादिना ।
विहीनाः सत्यसन्धेन किमर्थम् विजहासि नः ॥ ॥२-६६-१८॥
Hā mahārāja rāmeṇa satatam priyavādinā । Vihīnāḥ satyasandhena kimartham vijahāsi naḥ ॥ ॥2-66-18॥
Translation
"Oh Great King! We are already bereft of Rama, who always speaks pleasantly and is true to his promise. Why do you also forsake us now?"

हा महाराज! सदैव प्रिय बोलने वाले और सत्यप्रतिज्ञ राम से तो हम पहले ही वियुक्त हो चुकी थीं, अब आप भी हमें क्यों छोड़कर जा रहे हैं?
English Commentary
The lamentation here highlights the double tragedy striking the royal family. The queens address the deceased King, pointing out that they were already suffering the loss of Rama, who was their joy ("Priyavadina" - sweet-spoken) and moral anchor ("Satyasandhena" - truthful). They ask a rhetorical and heartbreaking question: "Why do you leave us too?" It implies that bearing Rama's exile was only possible with the King's presence. Now, with both the heir and the King gone, their world has completely collapsed. It underscores the sentiment that Dasharatha could not survive the separation from Rama, leaving the queens twice bereaved.
