Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
त्वया तेन च वीरेण विना व्यसनमोहिताः ।
कथम् वयम् निवत्स्यामः कैकेय्या च विदूषिताः ॥ ॥२-६६-२१॥
Tvayā tena ca vīreṇa vinā vyasanamohitāḥ । Katham vayam nivatsyāmaḥ kaikeyyā ca vidūṣitāḥ ॥ ॥2-66-21॥
Translation
"Without you and without that hero (Rama), overwhelmed by calamity and insulted by Kaikeyi, how shall we live here?"

आपके और उस वीर (राम) के बिना, हम भारी विपत्ति में फंसी हुई और कैकेयी द्वारा अपमानित होती हुई यहाँ कैसे निवास करेंगी?
English Commentary
This verse highlights the practical and social insecurity facing the queens. In the context of the times, a royal woman’s status and safety were heavily dependent on her husband or son. With the King dead and the protector Rama exiled, they are "Vyasana-mohitah" (deluded or overwhelmed by calamity). Their specific fear is living under Kaikeyi's regime, expecting to be "Vidushitah" (insulted or treated with contempt). They anticipate that the woman who could banish the righteous Rama will have no qualms about mistreating the widowed co-wives.

यह श्लोक रानियों की व्यावहारिक और सामाजिक असुरक्षा को रेखांकित करता है। एक विधवा स्त्री के लिए, विशेषकर राजपरिवार में, सम्मानपूर्वक जीने के लिए पुत्र या पति का होना आवश्यक था। राम वन में हैं और राजा की मृत्यु हो चुकी है। ऐसे में, वे 'व्यसनमोहिताः' (विपत्ति से मूढ़/व्याकुल) हैं। उन्हें डर है कि सत्ता अब कैकेयी और भरत के हाथ में होगी, और कैकेयी उन्हें 'विदूषिताः' (तिरस्कृत/अपमानित) करेगी। यह भय अकारण नहीं है, क्योंकि कैकेयी ने राम के साथ जो किया, उसके बाद अन्य रानियों को उससे किसी दया की अपेक्षा नहीं है।
