Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विहाय माम् गतः रामः भर्ता च स्वर् गतः मम ।
विपथे सार्थ हीना इव न अहम् जीवितुम् उत्सहे ॥ ॥२-६६-४॥
Vihāya mām gataḥ rāmaḥ bhartā ca svar gataḥ mama । Vipathe sārtha hīnā iva na aham jīvitum utsahe ॥ ॥2-66-4॥
Translation
Rama has abandoned me and gone away, and my husband has ascended to the heavens. Like a woman separated from her caravan on a treacherous path, I no longer wish to live.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राम मुझे छोड़कर चले गए हैं और मेरे पति स्वर्ग सिधार गए हैं। जिस प्रकार खराब रास्ते पर कारवां (साथियों) से बिछड़ी हुई स्त्री जीवित नहीं रहना चाहती, उसी प्रकार मैं भी अब जीने का उत्साह नहीं रखती।
English Commentary
In this verse, Queen Kausalya employs a powerful metaphor to describe her desolation. She compares herself to a traveler separated from her sartha (caravan) on a dangerous road (vipathe). In ancient times, traveling alone was perilous; survival depended on the group. For Kausalya, her son Rama and husband Dasharatha were her safety and identity. With one exiled and the other dead, she feels completely abandoned in the treacherous journey of life. The verse highlights her total loss of the will to live, emphasizing that without her protectors, her existence feels purposeless and terrifying.

यहाँ महारानी कौसल्या की स्थिति अत्यंत दयनीय है। वे एक रूपक (metaphor) का प्रयोग करती हैं—'विपथे सार्थ हीना'। प्राचीन काल में यात्राएं समूहों (कारवां) में होती थीं, और बीहड़ रास्ते में समूह से बिछड़ जाना मृत्यु के समान था। कौसल्या के लिए राम और राजा दशरथ ही उनका 'सार्थ' (सहारा) थे। एक वन चला गया और दूसरा स्वर्ग। अब इस संसार रूपी कठिन मार्ग पर वे स्वयं को नितांत अकेला और असुरक्षित महसूस कर रही हैं। यह श्लोक उनके पूर्ण निराशा और जीवन के प्रति विरक्ति के भाव को दर्शाता है। वे अब जीवन को एक बोझ मान रही हैं जिसे ढोने की उनमें शक्ति नहीं बची है।
