आक्रन्दितनिरानन्दा सास्रकम्ठजनाविला ।
आयोध्यायामतितता सा व्यतीतीयाय शर्वरी ॥ ॥२-६७-१॥
Ākranditanirānandā sāsrakamṭhajanāvilā । Ayodhyāyāmatitatā sā vyatīyāya śarvarī ॥ ॥2-67-1॥
Translation
That night in Ayodhya, joyless with wailing and filled with people whose throats were choked with tears, passed away very slowly (painfully).
हिंदी अनुवाद
रोने-धोने के शोर से आनंद रहित और आंसुओं से रुंधे गले वाले लोगों से भरी हुई वह रात्रि अयोध्या में बहुत कठिनाई से (धीरे-धीरे) व्यतीत हुई।
English Commentary
This marks the beginning of Sarga 67. The verse describes the passage of the first night following the King's death. The word "Atitata" implies that the night felt incredibly long and tedious, a common psychological experience during times of deep grief. Ayodhya is described as "Nirananda" (void of joy) and populated by choking voices. It sets a somber tone for the dawn, emphasizing that while the physical night has passed, the emotional darkness remains heavy upon the citizens.

यहाँ से ६७वां सर्ग (अराजक-जनपद-वर्णन) आरम्भ होता है। 'अतितता' शब्द का अर्थ है बहुत लंबी या विस्तृत। दुःख में समय काटना अत्यंत कठिन होता है; एक रात एक युग जैसी लगती है। पूरी अयोध्या 'निरानन्दा' (आनंद शून्य) है। रात्रि के अंधकार में विलाप का स्वर और भी भयानक लगता है। यह श्लोक उस लंबी काली रात का वर्णन करता है जो राजा की मृत्यु के तुरंत बाद आई थी, जहाँ नींद किसी की आँखों में नहीं थी, केवल आंसुओं का सैलाब था।
