न अराजके जन पदे वणिजो दूर गामिनः ।
गच्चन्ति क्षेमम् अध्वानम् बहु पुण्य समाचिताः ॥ ॥२-६७-२२॥
Na arājake jana pade vaṇijo dūra gāminaḥ । Gaccanti kṣemam adhvānam bahu puṇya samācitāḥ ॥ ॥2-67-22॥
Translation
In a kingless country, long-distance merchants carrying abundant merchandise do not travel safely along the roads.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अराजक देश में बहुत सा (बेचने योग्य) माल साथ लेकर दूर जाने वाले व्यापारी रास्तों पर सुरक्षित नहीं जा पाते।
English Commentary
This verse describes the collapse of trade. "Vanijah" (merchants) who travel long distances ("Dura gaminah") are essential for the economy. The phrase "Bahu punya samachitah" in this context refers to valuable goods or merchandise they carry. In a kingless state, the highways are no longer patrolled or safe ("Kshemam"). The risk of robbery prevents merchants from traveling, causing a halt in trade, shortages of goods, and economic isolation for the kingdom.
