अवेक्ष्याञ्जलिपानाम्श्च ब्राह्मणान् वेदपारगान् ।
ययुर्मध्येन बाह्लीकान् सुदामानम् च पर्वतम् ॥२-६८-१८॥
aveksyāñjalipānāmśca brāhmaṇān vedapāragān |
yayurmadhyena bāhlīkān sudāmānam ca parvatam ॥2-68-18॥
Translation
Observing Brahmins versed in the Vedas drinking water from their cupped hands, they passed through the middle of the Bahlika country and reached Mount Sudaman.

(मार्ग में) अंजलि (हाथों के सम्पुट) से जल पीने वाले और वेदों में पारंगत ब्राह्मणों को देखते हुए, वे बाह्लीक देश के मध्य से होकर सुदामान पर्वत तक गए।
English Commentary
The messengers traverse the Bahlika region. In this context, Bahlika likely refers to the Punjab plains (Madra-desha region) rather than distant Bactria. The verse vividly captures a cultural snapshot: learned Brahmins (vedapāragān) drinking water from their hands (añjalipānām). This specific detail might denote a particularly austere or orthodox group of ascetics living in that region. They then reach Mount Sudaman, another key geographical marker on the road to Kekaya.
