यद् असौ मातुल कुले पुरे राज गृहे सुखी ।
भरतः वसति भ्रात्रा शत्रुघ्नेन समन्वितः ॥२-६८-२॥
yad asau mātula kule pure rāja gṛhe sukhī |
bharataḥ vasati bhrātrā śatrughnena samanvitaḥ ॥2-68-2॥
Translation
Since that Bharata is residing happily along with his brother Shatrughna in the city of Rajagriha, at the home of his maternal uncle.

चूँकि वह भरत, अपने भाई शत्रुघ्न के साथ, अपने मामा के कुल (ननिहाल) राजगृह नगर में सुखपूर्वक निवास कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Vasistha establishes the location of the heir apparent. Bharata and Shatrughna are in Kekaya, at their maternal grandfather's capital, Rajagriha. The word 'Sukhi' (happily) is ironic and poignant; it highlights the calm before the storm for Bharata. He is completely unaware of the catastrophe that has struck his family in Ayodhya. Vasistha identifies the immediate logistical challenge: the heir is far away and unaware of his duty to ascend the throne.

वशिष्ठ जी स्थिति का आकलन कर रहे हैं। वे जानते हैं कि भरत और शत्रुघ्न केकय देश (वर्तमान अफगानिस्तान/पाकिस्तान सीमा क्षेत्र) में अपने नाना के घर 'राजगृह' (गिरिव्रज) में हैं। 'सुखी' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है—भरत अभी अयोध्या में घटी दुघर्टनाओं (राम वनवास, दशरथ मृत्यु) से अनजान हैं और वहां आनंद में हैं। वशिष्ठ जी योजना बना रहे हैं कि उन्हें कैसे वापस लाया जाए। यहाँ राजनैतिक भूगोल का ज्ञान भी झलकता है।
