मा च अस्मै प्रोषितम् रामम् मा च अस्मै पितरम् मृतम् ।
भवन्तः शम्सिषुर् गत्वा राघवाणाम् इमम् क्षयम् ॥२-६८-८॥
mā ca asmai proṣitam rāmam mā ca asmai pitaram mṛtam |
bhavantaḥ śamsiṣur gatvā rāghavāṇām imam kṣayam ॥2-68-8॥
Translation
And do not tell him that Rama has gone into exile, nor that his father is dead. Going there, do not speak of this destruction of the Raghu lineage.
हिंदी अनुवाद
और वहाँ जाकर तुम लोग भूलकर भी उसे यह मत बताना कि राम वन चले गए हैं, न ही यह बताना कि पिता (दशरथ) का देहांत हो गया है, और न ही रघुकुल के इस विनाश के बारे में कुछ कहना।
English Commentary
This is the critical embargo on information. The messengers are strictly forbidden from mentioning three things: Rama's exile, Dasharatha's death, and the general ruin (Kshayam) of the royal house. Vasistha fears Bharata's reaction—he is emotionally fragile and deeply attached to Rama. Breaking this news while he is far away could lead to unpredictable consequences. Vasistha wants Bharata back in Ayodhya, under his guidance, before the tragic reality is revealed. This secrecy is a strategic necessity to ensure the succession.
हिंदी टीका
यह 'निषेधात्मक आदेश' (Negative Order) है और पूरी योजना की धुरी है। वशिष्ठ जी जानते हैं कि भरत राम से अगाध प्रेम करते हैं और पिता के भक्त हैं। यदि उन्हें केकय में ही पता चल गया कि राम वन में हैं और पिता की मृत्यु कैकेयी (भरत की माँ) के कारण हुई है, तो संभव है कि भरत आत्मघात कर लें या अयोध्या लौटने से ही मना कर दें। भरत को अयोध्या लाकर, स्थिति को संभालते हुए ही यह समाचार देना उचित होगा। यह वशिष्ठ जी की दूरदर्शिता है।
