औपवाह्यस्य नागस्य विषाणम् शकलीकृतम् ।
सहसा चापि सम्शान्तम् ज्वलितम् जातवेदसम् ॥ ॥२-६९-१२॥
Aupavāhyasya nāgasya viṣāṇam śakalīkṛtam । Sahasā cāpi samśāntam jvalitam jātavedasam ॥ ॥2-69-12॥
Translation
I saw the tusk of the royal elephant shattered to pieces, and again, I saw the blazing fire suddenly extinguished.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(स्वप्न में) मैंने राजा के सवारी वाले हाथी का दांत टूटा हुआ देखा, और (पुनः) जलती हुई अग्नि को अचानक शांत होते हुए देखा।
English Commentary
The 'Aupavahya' elephant is the specific royal mount used by the King. Seeing its tusk shattered symbolizes the breaking of the King's power and majesty. It suggests that the pillar of the state has been damaged. The repetition of the image of the extinguished fire emphasizes the finality of the loss. In a psycho-spiritual context, the extinguished fire signifies the cessation of the sacrificial fire (Agni) that sustains the household and the kingdom, hinting at the King's demise.
