Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रहसन्तीव राजानम् प्रमदा रक्तवासिनी ।
प्रकर्षन्ती मया दृष्टा राक्षसी विकृतासना ॥ ॥२-६९-१६॥
Prahasantīva rājānam pramadā raktavāsinī । Prakarṣantī mayā dṛṣṭā rākṣasī vikṛtāsanā ॥ ॥2-69-16॥
Translation
I saw a hideous demoness wearing red garments, laughing at the King and dragging him away.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैंने एक लाल वस्त्र पहने हुए, विकराल रूप वाली राक्षसी को राजा का उपहास करते हुए और उन्हें (बलपूर्वक) खींचते हुए देखा।
English Commentary
The demoness personifies catastrophic fate or death itself. Her red attire signifies blood and destruction. The act of "dragging" the King implies that he is helpless against this force; he is being taken away against his will. Symbolically, this figure could also represent the unintentional malevolence of Kaikeyi, who forced Dasharatha into a situation that led to his demise. Bharata sees the violence of the separation between the King’s soul and his body.

यहाँ 'राक्षसी' साक्षात मृत्यु या काल-रात्रि का प्रतीक है। लाल वस्त्र धारण करना उग्रता और विनाश का संकेत है। राजा को 'खींचा जाना' (प्रकर्षन्ती) यह दर्शाता है कि उनकी इच्छा के विरुद्ध, बलपूर्वक उनके प्राण हरे गए हैं। यह संभवतः कैकेयी के कृत्य का भी एक रूपक (metaphor) हो सकता है, जिसने अपनी जिद से राजा को मृत्यु के द्वार तक खींच लिया, हालाँकि भरत अभी इस तथ्य से अनजान हैं।
