नरः यानेन यः स्वप्ने खर युक्तेन याति हि ।
अचिरात् तस्य धूम अग्रम् चितायाम् सम्प्रदृश्यते ॥ ॥२-६९-१८॥
Naraḥ yānena yaḥ svapne khara yuktena yāti hi । Acirāt tasya dhūma agram citāyām sampradṛśyate ॥ ॥2-69-18॥
Translation
Indeed, the smoke of the funeral pyre is soon seen rising for the man who travels in a dream on a vehicle yoked with donkeys.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो मनुष्य स्वप्न में गधे जुते हुए रथ पर बैठकर यात्रा करता है, शीघ्र ही उसकी चिता का धुआं (श्मशान में) दिखाई देता है।
English Commentary
Bharata cites a specific tenet of ancient dream interpretation literature to validate his fear. He moves from describing the dream to explaining its technical consequence: the donkey-cart ride is a direct precursor to cremation. This creates a sense of tragic irony, as the reader knows Dasharatha is already being cremated (or preserved for cremation), while Bharata is theoretically predicting it. It underscores the infallibility of omens in the epic's worldview.

भरत यहाँ स्वप्न शास्त्र (Dream Interpretation) के एक विशिष्ट नियम का उल्लेख कर रहे हैं। वे केवल डर नहीं रहे हैं, बल्कि तर्क दे रहे हैं कि उनका भय क्यों जायज है। यह श्लोक पुष्टि करता है कि भरत को शास्त्रों का ज्ञान है। 'चिता का धुआं' दिखना मृत्यु की निश्चितता को बताता है। यह वाक्य पाठकों (या श्रोताओं) को यह बताने के लिए है कि दशरथ की मृत्यु अब एक अटल सत्य है, जिसका समाचार भरत को मिलने ही वाला है।
