तव दुःखेन कैकेयि मम दुःखं महद्भवेत् ।
त्वद्वृद्धौ मम वृद्धिश्च भवेदत्र न संशयः ॥ ॥२-७-२२॥
Tava duḥkhena kaikeyi mama duḥkhaṃ mahadbhavet |
Tvadvṛddhau mama vṛddhiśca bhavedatra na saṃśayaḥ ॥2-7-22॥
Translation
"O Kaikeyi, your sorrow causes me great sorrow, and in your prosperity lies my prosperity; of this there is no doubt."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे कैकेयी! तुम्हारे दुःख से मुझे भारी दुःख होता है और तुम्हारी उन्नति (वृद्धि) में ही मेरी उन्नति है; इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।"
English Commentary
Manthara establishes a symbiotic relationship between herself and the Queen. By asserting that their fortunes are intertwined—her sorrow is Kaikeyi's sorrow, her rise is Kaikeyi's rise—she strengthens her credibility. She suggests that she has no motive to deceive because her own survival depends on Kaikeyi’s success. This appeal to "shared destiny" is a powerful tool to make her advice seem objective and necessary for their mutual survival, rather than malicious plotting.

मंथरा यहाँ अपने और कैकेयी के भाग्य को एक सूत्र में बाँध रही है। राजनीति में सेवकों का भविष्य उनके स्वामी की स्थिति पर निर्भर करता है। मंथरा स्पष्ट करती है कि वह अलग नहीं है—कैकेयी का पतन उसका पतन है और कैकेयी का उदय उसका उदय। यह तर्क कैकेयी को यह विश्वास दिलाने के लिए है कि मंथरा जो सलाह दे रही है, उसमें उसका खुद का अस्तित्व भी दांव पर लगा है, इसलिए वह झूठ नहीं बोलेगी। यह 'साझा हित' (shared interest) का सिद्धांत है।
