अपवाह्य स दुष्टात्मा भरतं तव बन्धुषु ।
काल्यं स्थापयिता रामं राज्ये निहतकण्टके ॥ ॥२-७-२६॥
Apavāhya sa duṣṭātmā bharataṃ tava bandhuṣu |
Kālyaṃ sthāpayitā rāmaṃ rājye nihatakaṇṭake ॥2-7-26॥
Translation
"Having sent Bharata away to your relatives, that evil-minded man intends to install Rama tomorrow morning in a kingdom free of obstacles (thorns)."

"उस दुष्टात्मा (राजा) ने भरत को तुम्हारे भाई-बंधुओं (नानिहाल) भेजकर (दूर हटाकर), निष्कंटक राज्य में कल सुबह राम को स्थापित करने का निश्चय किया है।"
English Commentary
Manthara twists a coincidence into a conspiracy. Bharata’s visit to his uncle was innocent, but Manthara frames it as a calculated move by Dasharatha to remove the only obstacle to Rama’s rise. The term 'Nihatakaṇṭake' (thornless/obstacle-free) suggests that Bharata was seen as a 'thorn' by the King. By calling the King 'Duṣṭātmā' (evil-souled), she cements the image of him as a scheming enemy who strategically cleared the board to ensure his preferred son's victory without opposition.

मंथरा अब अपनी 'साजिश के सिद्धांत' (conspiracy theory) को तथ्य के रूप में प्रस्तुत करती है। भरत का ननिहाल जाना एक संयोग था, लेकिन मंथरा उसे एक सुनियोजित षड्यंत्र बताती है। 'निहतकण्टके' (काँटे रहित/बाधा रहित) शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। वह कहना चाहती है कि भरत की उपस्थिति राम के अभिषेक में बाधा ('कंटक') बन सकती थी, इसलिए राजा ने जानबूझकर उसे हटाया। राजा को 'दुष्टात्मा' कहना मंथरा के साहस और द्वेष को दर्शाता है।
