यथा हि कुर्यात्सर्पो वा शत्रुर्वा प्रत्युपेक्षितः ।
राजञा दशरथेनाद्य सपुत्रा त्वं तथा कृता ॥ ॥२-७-२८॥
Yathā hi kuryātsarpo vā śatrurvā pratyupekṣitaḥ |
Rājañā daśarathenādya saputrā tvaṃ tathā kṛtā ॥2-7-28॥
Translation
"Just as a snake or an enemy left ignored acts [to destroy], so has King Dasharatha acted today towards you and your son."

"जैसे कोई उपेक्षित (इग्नोर किया गया) साँप या शत्रु चोट पहुँचाता है, वैसा ही बर्ताव आज राजा दशरथ ने तुम्हारे और तुम्हारे पुत्र के साथ किया है।"
English Commentary
Manthara extends the snake metaphor to its logical conclusion: the strike. She argues that Dasharatha has acted with the malice of a neglected enemy or a hidden serpent. Crucially, she includes 'Saputrā' (with your son), expanding the scope of the alleged betrayal to include Bharata. By framing the King's actions as a direct attack on her child, Manthara aims to trigger Kaikeyi’s maternal protective instincts, which are often more powerful than her concern for herself.

मंथरा पिछली उपमा को आगे बढ़ाती है। वह कहती है कि जिस तरह अनदेखा किया गया शत्रु या सांप अंततः डस लेता है, दशरथ ने वही किया है। यहाँ 'सपुत्रा' (पुत्र सहित) शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है। वह याद दिला रही है कि यह हमला केवल कैकेयी पर नहीं, बल्कि उसके पुत्र भरत के भविष्य पर भी है। एक माँ के रूप में कैकेयी को भड़काने के लिए यह जरूरी है कि भरत को भी पीड़ित (victim) के रूप में दिखाया जाए।
