अतीव सा तु संहृष्टाअ कैकेयी विस्मयान्विता ।
एकमाभरणं तस्यै कुब्जायै प्रददौ शुभम् ॥ ॥२-७-३२॥
Atīva sā tu saṃhṛṣṭā kaikeyī vismayānvitā |
Ekamābharaṇaṃ tasyai kubjāyai pradadau śubham ॥2-7-32॥
Translation
Extremely delighted and filled with astonishment, Kaikeyi gave a beautiful ornament to that hunchback.

अत्यंत प्रसन्न और विस्मित हुई कैकेयी ने उस कुबड़ी (मन्थरा) को एक सुंदर आभूषण उपहार में दिया।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi’s response completely contradicts Manthara’s intent. She is 'Vismayānvitā' (astonished) by the delightful surprise of the coronation news. Following the royal custom of rewarding the bearer of good tidings, she gifts a jewel to Manthara. This action is deeply ironic: Manthara intended to deliver a blow of devastation, but Kaikeyi receives it as a blessing. This reward likely infuriates Manthara further, as it signifies that her initial attempt to poison Kaikeyi’s mind has failed spectacularly against the armor of Kaikeyi's affection for Rama.
