Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्त्वा तु तान् दूतान् भरतः पार्थिव आत्मजः ।
दूतैः सम्चोदितः वाक्यम् मातामहम् उवाच ह ॥ ॥२-७०-१४॥
Evam uktvā tu tān dūtān Bharataḥ pārthiva ātmajaḥ |
Dūtaiḥ samcoditaḥ vākyam mātāmaham uvāca ha ॥2-70-14॥
Translation
Having thus spoken to those messengers, Prince Bharata, urged on by the envoys, spoke the following words to his maternal grandfather.

उन दूतों से ऐसा कहकर, राजकुमार भरत ने दूतों द्वारा प्रेरित किए जाने पर अपने नाना (राजा अश्वपति) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Bharata's sense of duty and responsiveness. Although he is a prince enjoying his stay at his grandfather's palace, the urgency conveyed by the messengers ('Dūtaiḥ samcoditaḥ') compels him to act immediately. He respects protocol by approaching his grandfather for permission to leave, demonstrating the etiquette expected of a 'Parthiva atmaja' (son of a king). It sets a tone of urgency that contrasts with the leisurely atmosphere of the Kekaya kingdom.

यहाँ भरत की कर्त्तव्यनिष्ठा और स्थिति की गंभीरता का पता चलता है। यद्यपि भरत राजकुमार हैं और अपने नाना के घर अतिथि हैं, किंतु अयोध्या से आए दूतों की शीघ्रता को देखकर वे तुरंत प्रस्थान की अनुमति मांगने के लिए तैयार हो जाते हैं। 'पार्थिव आत्मजः' (राजा के पुत्र) विशेषण उनके राजसी धर्म और शिष्टाचार को दर्शाता है। वे जानते हैं कि दूतों का आग्रह अकारण नहीं है, इसलिए वे बिना विलंब किए अपने नाना के पास जाते हैं।
