गच्च तात अनुजाने त्वाम् कैकेयी सुप्रजाः त्वया ।
मातरम् कुशलम् ब्रूयाः पितरम् च परम् तप ॥ ॥२-७०-१७॥
Gacca tāta anujāne tvām Kaikeyī suprajaḥ tvayā |
Mātaram kuśalam brūyāḥ pitaram ca param tapa ॥2-70-17॥
Translation
Go, dear child; I permit you. Because of you, Kaikeyi is a mother of a good son. Ask about the welfare of your mother and your father, the scorcher of foes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे तात! जाओ, मैं तुम्हें आज्ञा देता हूँ। तुम्हारे कारण कैकेयी 'सुपुत्रवती' (अच्छे पुत्र वाली) है। अपनी माता और शत्रु-तापन पिता से मेरा कुशल-क्षेम कहना।
English Commentary
This verse is laden with heavy dramatic irony. The grandfather praises his daughter Kaikeyi, calling her 'supraja' (having good offspring) because of Bharata's virtues. He is unaware that at this very moment, Kaikeyi's actions have destroyed the family's happiness. Furthermore, asking Bharata to convey regards to his 'scorcher of foes' father evokes pathos, as the audience knows Dasharatha is dead. It underscores the innocence of the characters in Kekaya regarding the tragedy in Ayodhya.

यहाँ "कैकेयी सुप्रजाः त्वया" (तुम्हारे कारण कैकेयी अच्छे पुत्र वाली है) वाक्यांश में भारी व्यंग्य और त्रासदी छिपी है। नाना अश्वपति भरत के गुणों के कारण अपनी पुत्री की प्रशंसा कर रहे हैं, जबकि वास्तविकता में कैकेयी ने अपने कृत्य से कुल को कलंकित कर दिया है। नाना का पिता (दशरथ) के कुशल-क्षेम पूछना पाठकों के मन में करुणा उत्पन्न करता है, क्योंकि दशरथ अब इस संसार में नहीं हैं।
