Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पुरोहितम् च कुशलम् ये च अन्ये द्विज सत्तमाः ।
तौ च तात महा इष्वासौ भ्रातरु राम लक्ष्मणौ ॥ ॥२-७०-१८॥
Purohitam ca kuśalam ye ca anye dvija sattamāḥ |
Tau ca tāta mahā iṣvāsau bhrātaru Rāma Lakṣmaṇau ॥2-70-18॥
Translation
(Ask also about the welfare of) the family priest and other excellent Brahmins, and, O dear one, of those two great archers, your brothers Rama and Lakshmana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(और) पुरोहित (वसिष्ठ) तथा अन्य श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणों का कुशल पूछना। और हे तात! उन दोनों महाधनुर्धर भाइयों, राम और लक्ष्मण का भी (कुशल पूछना)।
English Commentary
King Ashvapati extends his inquiries to the spiritual pillars of Ayodhya (the priests) and Bharata's brothers. Addressing Rama and Lakshmana as 'maha ishvasau' (great archers) acknowledges their martial prowess and importance. The mention of the brothers is particularly poignant; the grandfather envisions a reunited family in Ayodhya, completely unaware that the 'great archers' have been exiled to the forest, leaving the capital desolate.

राजा अश्वपति केवल राजा-रानी ही नहीं, बल्कि गुरुजनों और भरत के भाइयों की भी चिंता करते हैं। वे राम और लक्ष्मण को "महा इष्वासौ" (महाधनुर्धर) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो उनके शौर्य को दर्शाता है। यहाँ भी वही दुखद स्थिति है—नाना राम और लक्ष्मण का कुशल पूछ रहे हैं, जबकि वे दोनों वनवास के लिए निकल चुके हैं। यह श्लोक उस पारिवारिक प्रेम को दर्शाता है जो अब बिखर चुका है।
