Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तस्मै हस्ति उत्तमामः चित्रान् कम्बलान् अजिनानि च ।
अभिसत्कृत्य कैकेयो भरताय धनम् ददौ ॥ ॥२-७०-१९॥
Tasmai hasti uttamāmaḥ citrān kambalān ajināni ca |
Abhisatkṛtya Kaikeyo Bharatāya dhanam dadau ॥2-70-19॥
Translation
The King of Kekaya, having honored Bharata, gave him wealth in the form of excellent elephants, colorful woolen blankets, and deer skins.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कैकेय राज ने भरत का सत्कार करके उन्हें उत्तम हाथी, विचित्र (रंग-बिरंगे) ऊनी कंबल और मृगचर्म आदि धन के रूप में दिए।
English Commentary
This verse offers a glimpse into the economic and cultural specialties of the Kekaya kingdom (located in the northwest). The mention of 'citran kambalan' (colorful/variegated woolen blankets) and skins suggests the region was known for high-quality textiles and animal products. It is a traditional custom for a grandfather to lavish gifts upon his departing grandson. These gifts are not just material wealth but symbols of the affection and status of the Kekaya royal house.

यह श्लोक तत्कालीन केकय देश (वर्तमान उत्तर-पश्चिम क्षेत्र) की संपदा और संस्कृति का परिचय देता है। वह क्षेत्र अपने ऊनी वस्त्रों और कंबलों के लिए प्रसिद्ध था। 'चित्रान् कम्बलान्' सुंदर और बहुमूल्य कंबलों को दर्शाता है। विदाई के समय ननिहाल से ऐसे उपहार मिलना भारतीय परंपरा का अभिन्न अंग है। राजा अपने नाती को खाली हाथ नहीं, बल्कि राजसी ठाठ-बाट के साथ विदा कर रहे हैं।
