Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
समागम्य तु राज्ञा च राज पुत्रेण च अर्चिताः ।
राज्ञः पादौ गृहीत्वा तु तम् ऊचुर् भरतम् वचः ॥ ॥२-७०-२॥
Samāgamya tu rājñā ca rāja putreṇa ca arcitāḥ । Rājñaḥ pādau gṛhītvā tu tam ūcur bharatam vacaḥ ॥ ॥2-70-2॥
Translation
Having met the King (of Kekeya) and the Prince (Bharata), and being honored by them, the messengers touched the King's feet and then spoke these words to Bharata.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन दूतों ने राजा (भरत के नाना) और राजपुत्र (भरत) से भेंट की और उनके द्वारा सत्कार प्राप्त किया। फिर उन्होंने राजा के चरण स्पर्श किए और भरत से (यह) वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse highlights the strict protocol and etiquette of the time. Even though the messengers are carrying urgent news regarding the succession of Ayodhya, they do not bypass the host King (Aswapati/Yudhajit). They first accept hospitality and pay respects to the King before addressing Bharata. It shows that diplomatic decorum was maintained even in times of extreme emergency.

यहाँ शिष्टाचार और मर्यादा का पालन दर्शाया गया है। यद्यपि दूत अयोध्या से अति आवश्यक कार्य (आत्ययिकम्) के लिए आए थे, उन्होंने सीधे भरत को संदेश नहीं दिया। पहले उन्होंने वहाँ के राजा (भरत के नाना) और भरत का सम्मान स्वीकार किया और राजा के पैर छुए। यह कूटनीतिक शिष्टाचार है कि दूसरे राज्य में प्रवेश करने पर वहाँ के शासक का सम्मान सर्वोपरि होता है, चाहे कार्य कितना भी जरूरी क्यों न हो।
