जनानाम् रतिसम्योगेष्वत्यन्तगुणवन्ति च ।
तान्येतान्यद्य वश्यामि निरानन्दानि सर्वशः ॥ ॥२-७१-२६॥
Janānām ratisamyogeṣvatyantaguṇavanti ca |
Tānyetānyadya vaśyāmi nirānandāni sarvaśaḥ ॥2-71-26॥
Translation
Those places which were formerly excellent for the romantic meetings of the people, I see them all completely devoid of joy today.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो स्थान लोगों के रति-मिलन (प्रेम-क्रीड़ा) के लिए अत्यंत उत्तम और गुणकारी थे, उन सभी स्थानों को आज मैं पूरी तरह आनंद-रहित देख रहा हूँ।
English Commentary
Bharata focuses on the venues of romance and intimacy within the city. These locations, once celebrated for their beauty and ability to facilitate love and connection (ratisamyoga), now stand stark and joyless. The phrase niranandani sarvashah (completely devoid of joy everywhere) suggests a pervasive blanket of gloom. It implies that the tragedy has infiltrated even the most private and joyous aspects of human life in Ayodhya. For a prince returning home, seeing the erasure of love and happiness from the city's face is a terrifying confirmation that a catastrophe has struck the heart of the kingdom.

यह श्लोक नगर के सामाजिक और निजी जीवन की गहराई में जाता है। 'रतिसम्योग' के स्थान (जैसे उपवन, नदी के तट, आदि) जो कभी प्रेम और उल्लास के साक्षी थे, आज 'निरानन्द' (आनंदहीन) हो गए हैं। जब किसी देश का राजा नहीं रहता, तो प्रजा का व्यक्तिगत सुख-चैन भी छिन जाता है। भरत की दृष्टि उन स्थानों पर जा रही है जहाँ जीवन का उत्सव मनाया जाता था। यह श्लोक करुण रस को उद्दीप्त करता है—सुख के साधनों का उपस्थित होना, किन्तु सुख का न होना, दुख को और गहरा कर देता है। भरत को यह दृश्य अपशकुन जैसा लग रहा है।
