द्वाह्स्थैः उत्थाय विजयम् पृष्टः तैः सहितः ययौ ।
स तु अनेक अग्र हृदयो द्वाह्स्थम् प्रत्यर्च्य तम् जनम् ॥ ॥२-७१-३४॥
Dvāḥsthaiḥ utthāya vijayam pṛṣṭaḥ taiḥ sahitaḥ yayau । Sa tu aneka agra hṛdayo dvāḥstham pratyarcya tam janam ॥ ॥2-71-34॥
Translation
The gatekeepers stood up and inquired about his victory (welfare), joining him as he passed. Though his heart was scattered with anxiety, he respectfully reciprocated the greetings of those guards.

द्वारपालों ने उठकर उनकी 'विजय' (कुशल-मंगल) पूछी और उनके साथ हो लिए। भरत का मन अनेक चिंताओं में बंटा हुआ था, फिर भी उन्होंने उन द्वारपालों का यथोचित सत्कार/अभिवादन किया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Bharata's nobility and composure. The phrase aneka agra hṛdayo (literally: many-pointed heart) beautifully describes a distracted, anxious mind pulled in different directions by worry. Despite this internal turmoil, Bharata maintains the protocol of the court, acknowledging the guards who wish him 'Victory.' This contrast between the external formal greeting and the internal chaos reinforces the tension of the scene. It shows that even in distress, Bharata remains grounded in dharma and etiquette.

यह श्लोक भरत के शिष्टाचार और आत्म-संयम को दर्शाता है। मन में घोर उथल-पुथल ('अनेक अग्र हृदय' - जिसका चित्त एकाग्र न हो, चिंताओं में बंटा हो) होने के बावजूद, उन्होंने राजसी मर्यादा का पालन किया और सेवकों का अभिवादन स्वीकार किया। द्वारपालों द्वारा 'विजय' पूछना सामान्य दरबारी शिष्टाचार है, लेकिन उस समय भरत के लिए यह शब्द निरर्थक सा प्रतीत हो रहा था। यह स्थिति दिखाती है कि एक कुलीन व्यक्ति संकट के समय भी अपने से छोटों के प्रति सम्मान व्यक्त करना नहीं भूलता।
