बहूनि पश्यन् मनसो अप्रियाणि ।
यानि अन्न्यदा न अस्य पुरे बभूवुः ।
अवाक् शिरा दीन मना नहृष्टः ।
पितुर् महात्मा प्रविवेश वेश्म ॥ ॥२-७१-४७॥
Bahūni paśyan manaso apriyāṇi । Yāni annyadā na asya pure babhūvuḥ । Avāk śirā dīna manā nahṛṣṭaḥ । Pitur mahātmā praviveśa veśma ॥ ॥2-71-47॥
Translation
Witnessing many sights unpleasant to the mind, such as had never occurred in this city before, the great-souled Bharata entered his father's abode with his head bowed, his mind miserable, and devoid of joy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मन को अप्रिय लगने वाले बहुत से ऐसे दृश्यों को देखते हुए, जो उस नगर में पहले कभी नहीं हुए थे, महात्मा भरत ने सिर झुकाए, दीन मन से और उदास होकर पिता के भवन में प्रवेश किया।
English Commentary
This verse concludes the journey of entry. Bharata is described as mahātmā (great-souled), emphasizing that his suffering is born of noble empathy and love, not selfishness. The phrase avāk śirā (head bowed down) paints a picture of defeat and submission to a cruel fate. He enters his father's house not with the confidence of a prince, but with the dread of a mourner. The scenes he witnessed outside were unprecedented (anyadā na... babhūvuḥ), preparing him for the unprecedented tragedy awaiting him inside: the death of a King and the exile of a brother.

यह इस सर्ग (अध्याय) का अंतिम श्लोक है। भरत ने ऐसे अपशकुन देखे जो अयोध्या के इतिहास में 'अन्यदा न' (पहले कभी नहीं) हुए थे। 'अवाक् शिरा' (सिर झुकाए हुए) प्रवेश करना लज्जा, संकोच और भारी दुख का सूचक है। उन्हें डर है कि भीतर क्या समाचार मिलेगा। 'पितुर् वेश्म' (पिता का घर) में प्रवेश करते समय वे 'नहृष्टः' (हर्ष रहित) हैं, जो एक पुत्र के घर लौटने के उत्साह के ठीक विपरीत है। अब वे उस सत्य का सामना करने जा रहे हैं जो उनके जीवन को हमेशा के लिए बदल देगा।
